retool

"the significance of crises is the indication they provide that an occasion for retooling has arrived." thomas s. kuhn_________________so...what are we doing different? not all that much...i believe we went over panic buying and hoarding yesterday ( and there is an interesting article in the n y times on line edition today about a guy who went around rural kentucky and tennesee buying up hand sanitizer [he has over 17,000] he was selling for from $8 to $70 on amazon until they pulled the plug...an interesting commentary on entrepreneurial capitalism and its extractive proclivities...he came off a bit whiny ) which is pretty much the result or the media peddling fearmongering masquerading as awareness training....
on the national government level, "house passes sweeping coronavirus relief package"...wonderful until your eyes wander over to ""vote follows declaration of national emergency" and you discover that the senate is scheduled to take the matter up "early next week"...still playing politics...BAU...on the state level the state health department has tested 89 people for covid-19...this represents .00001318518 of the state's estimated population..their map shows that one of the newly confirmed three cases is now only two counties away...reassuring except they don't really know where the virus is...no one does....my presumption is it is already here and probably state wide
in another vein, the gas and electric utility has joined the banks in telling me what precautions they are taking to contain health risks to the public and their employees...more importantly they have suspended utility shut offs and late charges for the nonce and are offering relaxed payment terms...that i will take as a positive and an example for the government to consider...is this a "crisis" or is it just another day of the media crafting a product? i don't know...one supposes the threat is real even though the confirmed cases are a minuscule proportion of the global population...so i will be more careful about contact with other humans ( not much of a stretch really ) and i will wash my hands a lot...i went to work today and will continue to do so until i am told not to...there is food here if things go south and i have books i have been meaning to read...the time has come to await developments and see if hume's "inferences from the past" become "useless"
