pandemic

pandemic
"So homeward and to the Cross Keys at Cripplegate, where I find all the towne almost going out of towne, the coaches and waggons being all full of people going out into the country." samuel pepys diary 21 june 1665_________________________the number of cases in my state rose by 12% from yesterday to today...still...and this bears remembering, for now at least, that rise still represents .00000148148% of this state's population...probably not time to get out of dodge or be locked down just yet...that this could come about should not be subject to denial...caution is always a good idea in interesting times and we will continue to be careful in what we do because it could turn ugly...but getting back to getting out of town...
the sunday new york times had a brochure for oceania cruise lines mediterranian cruises...this one departs monte carlo on the 19th of april for a ten day cruise around various sites of antiquity...with top flight fare a deal at $13899 per person and $2299 a person for steerage who wouldn't jump at a chance to take a cruise to italy? the timing is impeccable...and speaking of who...
we have a pandemic on our hands...named as such doubtlessly due to the wide dispersal of global cases and the seeming ease of transmission of the virus...again...no panic...just caution ( except in the stock market )...i see the markets have puked up yesterday's gains and then some...they are prone to panic and market optimism can wither like a snake in a brush fire when the news is bad ...and the who has obviously lit the fuse on an explosive decline...
the cdc...
and the times still cannot agree on how many states are reporting cases...arkansas seems to be in dispute...others as well no doubt...today the cdc says nine hundred and thiry-nine cases in the country...the times says the number exceeds one thousand...close enough for government work one supposes...so we wait ans see what tomorrow brings...i will go to work as i did today...i went to the supermarket today as well...and used hand sanitizer ( sparingly...there is none to be found hereabouts ) and washed my hands and used disinfectant wipes on "often touched surfaces"...i used my sleeve as a prophylactic when i punched the elevator buttons and i used forearms and hips to navigate doors...vigilance is a virtue at the moment...actually always but we habitually drop into auto-pilot in familiar surroundings...such are humans...more as the disputed data becomes available.
